SCHRODERS ARMED FORCES PROGRAMME
 

Job title: Ex-military Intern

Salary: £55,000 (pro-rated 6 month FTC)

Start date: Summer 2026 (flexible) 

Location: London

 

Our Armed Forces programme is a 6-month paid internship that starts between June – August each year. It is designed to allow talented service leavers to gain the commercial experience to complement their existing skills, enabling them to build a long-term career within the Schroders group. Currently all roles are in the UK at our London offices in Moorgate.

 

Individuals are selected to join one of several business areas, dependent on their experience and the requirements of the business. All members of the programme will be given training and development opportunities in addition to interesting and varied work on a day-to-day basis.

Who we are looking for

To be eligible for this programme you must have completed a minimum of 1-year regular service in the Armed Forces. We recognise and value the typical qualities of former service personnel; we are looking for bright individuals with an evidenced background of high achievement within the Armed Forces.  Individuals are expected to be degree level educated, demonstrate leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills, as well as an interest in asset management.


We have the Armed Forces programme taking place this year in the following two areas:

Wealth Management (Assistant Portfolio Manager)

Cazenove Capital is the dedicated Wealth Management business of the Schroder Group in the UK, renowned for providing specialist financial solutions to high-net-worth individuals, family offices, charities, and their advisers. Leveraging the investment expertise of both Cazenove Capital and Schroders, as well as carefully selected external providers, we deliver leading portfolio management, banking, and investment advisory services. Our longstanding client relationships and commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity have established us as a leader in private wealth management.


Solutions 
Schroders Solutions was formed following the merger of two businesses: Schroders Portfolio Solutions and the River and Mercantile Solutions business, acquired in early 2022. We manage over £200 billion in assets for a variety of clients, primarily in the UK. You will be part of our Global Client Solutions team, which is responsible for creating and delivering customised investment strategies. We engage with a diverse range of clients, including Defined Benefit Pensions, Defined Contribution Pensions, Insurance companies, and other institutional clients, using our extensive knowledge to foster strong relationships. Our team comprises individuals from different backgrounds, including pensions, investment, and asset management, giving you the opportunity to learn from various experiences. 

Essential skills and qualifications

  • At least one year of active UK military service;

  • A keen interest in asset management industry;

  • Professional, organised, detail oriented and motivated;

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills;

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills;

  • Must be self-driven and deliver results based on agreed targets;

  • High level of numeracy; and

  • Intermediate level in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Individuals will have mentorship from their line manager, but also a wide network of fellow former Armed Forces members to help integrate into the business and make your transition as successful as possible. The programme offers the opportunities to take a role relevant and industry recognised professional qualification, as well as in-person tutor-led technical skills development introducing the world of asset management.
